Herbal medicines have long been used in therapeutic medicine owing to their minimal side effects. However, contamination, inadequate purification, and adulteration can lead to adverse outcomes upon intake. Several forensic case studies have reported that these compounds can be overdosed, leading to serious effects and death. Furthermore, their interactions with pharmacological agents are poorly studied. In forensic settings, mass spectrometry along with liquid chromatography is the most practiced method to detect and quantity these agents. Keywords: Herbal medicine, forensics, therapeutics, pharmacology, chromatography, spectrometry.
