Abstract

The present study records two species of ticks on Alectoris chukar partridge in Iran. Totally, 40 immature tick specimens were collected from 15 birds in Fars province, Southern Iran. A fragment of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) was sequenced in both of the tick samples. The tick specimens were identified morphologically as Hyalomma sp. and Alveonasus sp. According to the BLAST identity of COI gene sequence, ticks were identified as Hyalomma marginatum Koch and Alveonasus canestrinii Birula. This study is the first and second record of A. canestrinii and H. marginatum on Chukar partridge, respectively
